8th sunday after trinity |

A warm welcome to this email newsletter to all our friends and neighbours in the parish of burchetts green. |

One of the highlights for me this past week has been catching up with our two september wedding couples . despite the uncertainty of ever-changing regulations, an upper limit on attendance, and the need for social distancing, these couples really value the chance to make their vows in church and to ask god’s blessing on their marriage. after the sadness of so many weddings being deferred this year, it has been a real joy to hear banns of marriage being read in church once again. |

ın our churches this sunday: |
11 |
ıf you are able to join us for sunday wors***p you would be most welcome. at our family eucharist this week we will be reflecting together on the miracle of jesus feeding of the five thousand (and see my reflection for this week). at hurley this sunday, we have the first in a new series of relaxing and prayerful wors***p times, to which you would be most welcome. |
12 |
Sunday 2nd august: littlewick green – 9.15am family eucharist, with organ music |
13 |
Hurley – 10.30am listen to god through music |

We have worked hard to ensure everyone is as safe as possible in our churches in these strange covid-19 times, especially through social distancing and the use of hand sanitiser stations in our church buildings. the church of england “strongly advises” that face coverings should be worn by those attending church services, but (for the moment) this not mandatory. there will be some for whom the wearing of a face covering is not appropriate for medical or other reasons but who want to attend church – and you will be very welcome to do so. |
15 |
However, to protect your own safety and the safety of others, you should not come to church if you have symptoms of covid-19 or live with someone who does, or you have been asked to isolate by nhs track and trace. |
16 |
The streamed oxford diocese sunday services are taking a break in august. other internet services are available in a variety of styles; for instance if you prefer a relaxed but traditional style of service, ı can recommend the sunday eucharist from canterbury cathedral https://www.canterbury-cathedral.org/#onlineservices (where you will also find interesting and engaging morning and evening prayer each day, sometimes with a starring role for the deanery cats and hens); closer to home, all saints marlow offer both traditional and contemporary sunday wors***p at https://4u-team.org/digitalchurch/ the daily hope phoneline also remains active: |
17 |

As part of its calendar of saints and commemorations, on thursday 30th july the church of england remembered with grat**ude the lives of william wilberforce and two other campaigners for the abolition of slavery, thomas clarkson and olaudah equiano. olaudah was an enslaved man from nigeria (according to his biography) who bought his freedom and published an autobiography which was highly influential in the anti-slavery movement. we give thanks for social reformers of the past, and we pray for racial justice and equality in our own day and for the defeat of modern slavery and people trafficking. |
23 |
The disasters emergency committee covid-19 appeal ı mentioned last week has now reached £19m to provide the basic necessities and healthcare supplies needed to protect the poorest of the poor, including those living in crowded refugee and displacement camps in syria and yemen. you can donate at www.dec.org.uk |
24 |
For our prayers: for racial justice and equality, and for the defeat of modern slavery and people trafficking; for all refugees and displaced peoples and for the work of the unhcr; for the uk immigration services and for the humane treatment of asylum seekers. for maidenhead foodshare and those who are supported by it; for those of our community suffering from loneliness, anxiety or illness at this time; for those who mourn the loss of a loved one; and for those who have recently died. |
25 |
Lord jesus christ, you taught us to love our neighbour, |
26 |
And to care for those in need as if we were caring for you. |
27 |
ın this time of anxiety, give us strength to comfort the fearful, |
28 |
To tend the sick, and to a***ure the isolated of our love and of your love, |
29 |
For your names sake. |
30 |
Amen. |

Even though we are unable to use our churches we still have bills to pay and the present lockdown is creating a major financial burden for the church and for us. ıncome from the hiring of our halls and church buildings; weddings and other special services; social events and fundraisers; and the collection plate at normal church services; are all well down (or zero) this year for obvious reasons. |
38 |
ıf you would like to continue to support us financially, even though you cannot use the collection plate there are several ways that you can give: |
39 |
Or: |
40 |
Or simply text 70085 and enter praısegod and the amount you want to give. |
